French Foreign Legion

The French Foreign Legion is a service branch of the French Army that was founded on 10 March 1831 so that foreign individuals could fight for France. The zouaves were some of the most notable Foreign Legion soldiers, being Algerians who would join the French military during French rule over North Africa.
