Guerau de Espes

Guerau de Espes (1524-1572) byl Spanish šlechtic a diplomat, který sloužil jako král Philip II of Spain's ambassador to Elizabeth I of England from 1568 to 1571.

Biography

Guerau de Espes se narodil v Leridě, Spain in 1524, and King Philip II of Spain appointed him as ambassador to England in 1568. Espes sloužil jako velvyslanec v době napjatých vztahů mezi oběma zeměmi a neuspěl s žádostí o vrácení zlata odebraného z Spanish Navy by Huguenot pirates during the Dutch Revolt, as the Spanish seizure of English ships led to the English ¬ keeping the confiscated gold at the Tower of London.
