Ath

Ath je obec v Hainaut, Wallonia, Belgium. The Gallo-Romans jednou se v oblasti usadil, a v roce 1160, Count Baldwin IV of Hainaut koupil pozemky od svého pobočníka Gillese de Trazegnies a postavil Burbantskou věž, aby chránil své nové území. V roce 1325 byl vybudován Athův trh a prosperita města během Middle Ages vedla k populační explozi a stavbě druhé zdi na konci 14. století. V roce 1667 král Louis XIV of France took Ath in a single day during War of Devolution with Spain, and it become the first French-held city of the Spanish Netherlands. The French Marquis de Vauban then fortified the city, which the French would again take in 1745 during the War of the Austrian Succession, this time from the Austrian Netherlands. V roce 1816 po Napoleonic Wars, Britain, the Netherlands, and France (která musela platit Holandsku válečné odškodné) financovala výstavbu nových opevnění a v roce 1824 byla postavena pevnost Feron Fort.
