Ealdred of York

Biography
Ealdred se narodil v Devon do bohaté rodiny a stal se Římskokatolický mnich v Winchester před tím, než se stal opatem Tavistockého opatství v roce 1027. He became Bishop of Worcester in 1046, and he also served as a diplomat and military leader under King Edward the Confessor. In 1058, he became the first English bishop to take a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and while administerse the Diocese of Hereford, he was twice defeated by Welsh raiders before making peace with Gruffydd ap Llywelyn. He went to serve as Archbishop of York from 1060 to 1069, crowning both King Harold Godwinson and King William the Conqueror. He died in 1069.
