Edward Brooke

Edward Brooke (26. října 1919-3. ledna 2015) byl členem Senát USA od Massachusetts (R) od 3. ledna 1967 do 3. ledna 1979, následně Leverett Saltonstall a před Paul Tsongas.

Biography

Edward Brooke se narodil a vyrůstal v Washington DC, a absolvoval studium na Boston University School of Law po službě v US Army v Italy během World War II. Působil jako předseda finanční komise Bostonu před zvolením Massachusetts Attorney General in 1962, and he won a landslide election to the US Senate in 1967. He aligned with the liberal Rockefeller Republicans, and he co-wrote the Civil Rights Act of 1968, which prohibited housing discrimination. Brooke became a prominent critic of Richard Nixon, criticizing him after Watergate. He was beatated for re-election by Paul Tsongas in 1978, and he was involved with various businesses and non-profits after his retirement from politics.
