Dirk Olde Samson

Dirk Olde Samson was a Black American Loyalist who served in Colonel Tye's Black Brigade during the American Revolutionary War. Born to an enslaved family of Dutch-speaking Blacks in North Jersey, he was recruited into the British Army and fought at the 1780 Battle of Red Hill. After the war, he emigrated to the Bahamas.
