Ferdinand Flanderský, hrabě Flanderský

Ferdinand Flanderský, hrabě Flanderský (24. března 1188 – 27. července 1233) byl jure uxoris Hrabě Flanders v letech 1212 až 1233 jako manžel Joan, Countess of Flanders. Ferdinand byl jedním z vůdců anti-French aliance na Bitva u Bouvines v červenci 1214, během které byl zajat a poražen.

Životopis

Ferdinand was born in Coimbra, Portugal on 24 March 1188, the fourth son of Sancho I of Portugal and Dulce of Aragon. In 1212, he married Joan, Countess of Flanders, making him the jure uxoris Count of Flanders. While on their way to Flanders, Ferdinand and Joan were captured by France, who seeking to get his dead mother's dowry, a large piece of Flemish territory including Artois, which Joan's father had taken back by force after Isabela z Hainaultu's death. Po tomto ústupku se Ferdinand a Johana spojili s králem Jan Anglický and Císař Svaté říše římské Otto IV against King Filip II., ale Ferdinand byl poražen a zajat při Bitva u Bouvines. Měl zůstat ve francouzských rukou dalších 12 let, ale byl propuštěn v roce 1226 francouzským regentem, Blanche of Castile, po Ludvík IX. z Francie nastoupil na trůn. Ferdinand zemřel v Noyonu v roce 1233 ve věku 45 let.
