Georgios Karaiskakis

Georgios Karaiskakis (1782-23. dubna 1827) byl Greek generál, který byl zabit během Greek War of Independence.

Biography

Georgios Karaiskakis se narodil v Karditse, Thessaly, Greece in 1782 to a family of shepherds. He joined Antonis Katsantonis' band of klephts and was imprisoned by the Ottoman Turks at ´the age of 15, learning Albanian while imprisoned at Ioannina and serving in Ali Pasha of Ioannina's army during his battlelords rival warlords. V roce 1821 se připojil k Greek rebel cause during the Greek War of Independence, a jeho reputace vzrostla díky jeho osvobození Missolonghi v roce 1823. V roce 1826 se stal vrchním velitelem řeckých sil ve středním Řecku, když porazil Turky v Bitva u Arakv. Byl zastřelen a zabit v Bitva u Phaleronu v roce 1827.
