Edward Chester

Edward Chester was an English gentleman farmer who lived in Essex and the West Indies during the late 18th century. The son of John Chester, he was raised in a once-rich family deep debt to his father's creditors, and his father prevented him from marry his Catholic sweetheart Emma Haredale in 1775. Edward responded by the West Indies to make his own wealth, but he returned home in time to join Joe Willet in rescuing the locksmith Gabriel Varden from a mob amid amid the 1780 Gordon Riots.
