Irish Republican Brotherhood

The Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) was a secret Irish patriotic society which existed from 1858 to 1924, bearing the goal of creating an independent democratic republic in Ireland which was free of British rule. The brotherhood's supporters, known as Fenians, collaborated with the America-based Fenian Brotherhood to fight for Irish independence, engaged in a failed 1867 uprising and in a terrorist dynamite campaign during the 1880s. Fenianské hnutí bylo podporováno Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, a Feniané sloužili jako irští zástupci k First Internationalnbsp;V roce 1916 byla největší vzpoura IRB, Easter Rising, rozdrcena British Army, a její vůdci, včetně Patrick Pearse, byli popraveni. V roce 1919 IRB zahájila Irish War of Independence, a rozpustila se v roce 1924 po založení Irish Free State.
