Alexandre Petion

Alexandre Petion (2. dubna 1770 – 29. března 1818) byl prezidentem Jižní Haiti od 9. března 1806 do 29. března 1818, následován Jean-Jacques Dessalines a předcházel Jean-Pierre Boyer.

Biography

Alexandre Petion se narodil 2. dubna 1770 v Port-au-Prince, Saint-Domingue bohatému French otec a tto matka a v roce 1788 studoval na vojenské akademii v Francouzské království s dalšími svobodnými barevnými lidmi. Petion returned to Haiti in 1791 during the Haitská revoluce to fight for his country's independence from France, and he allied with Andre Rigaud and Jean-Pierre Boyer against Toussaint L'ouverture in the "War of the Knives". He was forced to exile in France in 1799 after the rebellion was defeated, and in February 1802 he assisted Charles Leclerc and his 82,000-strong French army in re re regaining power.
